揾到手

this is along the geylang stretch and sy and i decide to give it a try there's quite many ppl eating here =) it sells dim sum and also local delights such as chili crab curry crab hor fun and stuff at economical prices

first up is the minced pork congee...its a pretty small bowl for $2 each...its probably as much as the size of the rice bowl u used @ home...tt's nth much fatastic abt the minced pork..but the congee is really smooth =) it doesn't has a grainy texture which i really dislike a lot for congee and its not watery @ all! i believe they juz hav a big pot of plain congee ready and make it into watever type u order...like 皮蛋粥, 田鸡粥 and stuff ba...but i really like the congee for wat it is! a pity they dun sell you zha kueh (油条) here...

the cheong fun here is really special!!! as u can tell from the photo...they dun use the traditional dark watery 酱清...but they use the sauce the cooks used to cook tze char hor fun and mui fan! but the sauce is more starchy! it may look funny but it really complements the cheong fun sia...we ordered the prawn cheong fun and the prawns are springy and crunchy =) one whole prawn in each cheong fun! the cheong fun itself is also very soft and thin...it juz feels like eating seafood hor fun..but the hor fun is rolled up wif the prawn within...in my opinion...this is a muz try! =)
siew mai here doesn't really look appetizing..the comforting point abt the siew mai is it contains a considerable amt of prawns and minced meat =) the prawn is likewise springy..much to my delight =)
the har gau here is a disappointment...while the prawn maintained its standard springy-ness...the skin of the har gau stick to the paper and comes off too easily...not good...

the pai kuat here uses a lot of garlic for garnish..insteand of the traditional chilli and dou shi...so it lacks the salty/spicy feel and is filled wif the fragrance of garlic...i love garlic so its fine wif me but those who are "vampires" may wan to steer clear or remove away the garlic? average in my opinion...

there's nth special abt the drink...but its my first time seeing ppl serving drinks in a bowl haha...so i juz decide to put up this pic!

in whole...i give it 3.75/5! i still think its a nice place of supper in geylang instead of always going for tau huay and you zha kueh (油条) =) i will definitely go back for more supper there cos there's still lots tt i wanna try! =D

e-Blackboard

the next stall that kang kang brought me to was e-Blackboard, a five min walk from Hill St char kway teow stall...the stall really reminds me of Botak Jones sia...

first up is the beef burger...the slab of melted cheese sure looks appetizing sia...but it doesn't come free...its 50 cents sia...anyway...back to the main lead - burger...the burger isn't big though it boasts a 300g beef patty...yes i know u're wondering if this patty u're looking @ is really 300g heavy...i'm having my doubts too...but too bad i din bring a kitchen scale...honestly its patty doesn't look more than tt of Botak Jones...which weighs @ 150g a patty...but oh well..i hope e-blackboard dun lie to me...the patty is average in my opinion...not very juicy and i find it kinda dry after a few bits...

the bread is spread wif garlic before toasted and served wif the patty..which appeals to me since i like garlic spread =) their fries are special...powdered wif their recipe...and it really appeals to kang kang sia...he was finishing both plates of fries even though we juz had our char kway teow!

it costs $6.80 a plate (minus the slab of cheese)...and i'm giving 3.5/5 in terms of worthiness and quality...i mean for such a price u can buy urself a cheeseburger from mac?? but looking @ the size and quality of the beef patty, e-blackboard is of cos a smarter choice!

nxt up is the Cajun chicken! the portion of chicken given was really decent..its was nicely grilled expect for a little tiny part which was burnt! but its the skin which was burnt anyway haha... the meat is really juicy...i juz need to compress the meat wif my knife and u can see the juice flowing out! but wat appeals me is the Cajun sauce! its really quite balanced in terms of its sweetness and sourness...and of cos it doesn't steal nor mask the chicken taste!

it comes wif coleslaw and fries...and its less than 7 bucks if i'm not wrong (kang kang paid for everything so i really dunno some of the prices haha) and i'm giving it 3.75/5!

i will be coming back to try its lamb chop...it seems good!

Hill St Char Kway Teow

Kang kang decided to give me a treat since i won the bet we made mths ago...he lives in bedok..and of cos its his responsibility to treat me to the nicest hawker fare in bedok...we concluded on hill st char kway teow and e-blackboard...and thus this post!

we arrived arnd lunchtime and had to wait for 20min plus...there were really quite many ppl da-baoing..thus elevating my expectation on this one...i've heard many stories tt hill st is one of the legendary char kway teow stalls sia

but i guess with higher expectations...the more disappointed one gets...it wasn't really delicious in my opinion...or not good enough for me to recommend to someone or travel all the way down from hougang juz to hav it...

on the day i tried...the char kway teow wasn't sweet enough...and there wasn't much ingredient on the plate...kang kang was lamenting tt he only had one or two slices of lap cheong...its really juz a plate of char kway teow u can get anyway off the street...

but for pork lard lovers u will really enjoy the crispy fried pork lard that u find on the plate...the amt of lard they give is more than tt of the cockles or lap cheong sia...so if u like ur food wif lots of lard...this hill st char kway teow won't disappoint u eh...

for $2.50 or $3 a plate...i give it 3/5. kang kang commented that there was a drop in standard on the day we tried...so prob i will go down and try again....but of cos only when i'm really free...
