Miss Clarity Cafe

i made a trip down to Miss Clarity Cafe wif sy today for lunner (lunch cum dinner)...heard abt this cafe from the office...and it is actually owned by the aunt of my friend, benison! well miss clarity is actually the name of benison's sis haha...(we were joking today y it wasn't named after benison and benny said "Mr Benison Bistro" wld be lame haha) well bearing in mind all their recommendations! i head down today to taste it for myself!

on the overall...this place is great! the food's real good and the price is cheap! most of them are below $10...they also offer upgrades to ur meal..like changing desserts...fries and stuff by a mere $1 or $2! they also have something similar to cartel...adding $3 to make it a set meal...or $6 for a ben & jerry's set meal! the $3 add-on offers soup/salad, barley/lime/teh/kopi and finally dessert of the day...the $6 add-on offers soup/salad, barley/lime/teh/kopi and finally ben & jerry ice-cream! haha cool rite?

the salad is a very simple dish...carrot, red beans, raisins and lettuce...simple but nice

sy ordered garlic crusted dory...when i first taste it...it taste more like the titbit cheesez rings! the flavour is a bit strong tt i can't taste the garlic or the dory...which i think is a disapointment! the dish is a little spicy as well...but since i only sampled bit of the dory...i wldn't comment much! but its priced @ $8.80..cheap isn't it???

i ordered porky onion at the recommendation of benison! and i have to him for this! cos honestly i think the pork chop is great!! this is actually sauteed pork chops wif caramelised onions! the serving is realy bigg! 3 slices of pork chops in total wif large amount of caramelised onions on top! the onions are soft, moist and sweet! and gives the pork chop and extra flavour! the pork chops i have are normally dry...but this is a bit wet due to the sauce of the onions...the pork chops are well grilled as well! not tough at all..the salty pinch of the grilled pork is a well balance wif the sweetened onions! there are also potato wedges and seasoned cabbages as side dishes...for this novel idea of a pork chop priced @ only $9.80..i give it 4!

the dessert of the day was mango sorbet...but it was too crystallised! becomes very flanky...not nice...

here come the mud ooze which tastes holy superb! the dessert is served in a kopi cup...the bottom of the cup is soft warm chocolate cake...the second layer is filled wif chocolate lava and finally the top is ice cold vanilla ice-cream! imagine the feeling of hot and cold in ur mouth! omg!!! its so delicious and so chocolatey!!!! the u dip into the cold ice-cream and mix it wif the warm chocolate lava and soft cake...omg...i guess i have to run a few more rounds to ease my gulit! its a good thing i shared it wif sy...cos by the time we finished...i can already feel the heatiness in my throat! imagine finishing it myself! haha...but i still won't mind for a second one though!!! the next time i'm back...i gonna have it again! priced @ $4.50...i give it 4.5! =D

visit http://missclaritycafe.com/ for more info on the cafe! its sure a place to check out wif the cheap and superb food!

this chicken rice stall that i'm going to introduce is value for money given its serving and price...there isn't really anything fantastic abt the chicken rice...the chicken is only a bit better than ave..but wat really surprise me is the soup!

A normal plate of chicken rice cost $3...meanwhile if u order 套餐...it is price @ $5 and u'll receive an additional side dish...the side dishes include 油菜,豆芽, or 玻璃鸡脚...the serving of the side dish is generous! a 套餐 like this can fill u pretty much easily...i normally order a 套餐 and another chicken rice for 2 pax...tt works out to $4 each and seriously...it is already more than enough! the chicken is slightly above ave...the meat isn't very tender though but still decently smooth...i rate it @ 3

but well..wat i wanna introduce is the 饨汤...this kinda soup is normally price at $3 or more per bowl...but here u can to drink for free and can ask for a refill! the soup juz comes wif the chicken rice! they have a total of 6 diff types of 饨汤...but one type a day la...so its juz like a "soup of the day" they have 花生鸡脚汤, 莲藕汤, 玉粟粟汤, 老黄瓜汤 and two others which i can't rmb...but i have personnally tried the 花生鸡脚汤, 玉粟粟汤 and the 老黄瓜汤 and the soups really have a very strong flavour! i'm pretty sure there's isn't any MSG added! all the 精华 of the ingredients have been absorbed into the soup! there was once when i was having 老黄瓜汤 there and the boss was preparing 花生 and 鸡脚 for the soup...my dad was curious and asked if there was any 花生鸡脚汤 avaliable...the boss told him tt his was actually preparing the soup for the next day! so imagine tt...all the ingredients 饨 for at least 12 hours before being served (for free somemore) u can guess for dedicated the boss is to the customers! for the soup...i give it a 4 for its 原汁原味 and the boss's 心意!

sorry i can't get any photo for the soup...it look very ordinary...but simply taste great!

Aston Specialties

this is by far the BEST western food cafe i've come across! & i can swear for the cheap and fabulous food offered here...u have to agree wif me once u tried it! this is a delayed entry again...went on 24 Mar wif kangkang zehan jx colin marcus after catching "300" in cathay!

for ppl who haven't been to astons...let me do a bit of introduction..like any other western stall...they offer any common grilled meat la...as for steak...they have sirloin, ribeye and stuff...of cos there's juz normal stuff offered in their menu...u're offered to choose 2 side dishes to go wif ur main course..which includes baked, mashed potato, salad, coleslaw, fries, beans, and a few other more

now let me go into a special menu called the "celebrity beef" in this section...they offered some higher-class beef...which included beef air-flown from australia..but most importantly WAGYU BEEF!! (think KOBE BEEF if u dun understand haha) they offer wagyu grade 7 or grade 9 beef sometimes...juz not always...depends on stock la...so tt's y they are called "celebrity beef"! but man the wagyu is really cheap man! imagine a 300gm wagyu grade 9 steak from Mayura Wagyu Station @ $128.90 only! or a 300gm wagyu grade 5 from Mayura Wagyu Station @ $58.90 only!! i know some of u out there may say "are u crazy??!! u call this cheap??!!!" but com'on....if u try this kinda grade at some posh restaurant...i think u'll be willing to burn a hole in ur wallet in astons rather than somewhere else...

alrite here come the food...we din really tried many stuff of cos..three of us tried the 250gm ribeye extra cut @ $14.90 while the remaining three tried the 250gm Australian Gold Ribeye @ $29.90!
the Australian Gold Ribeye is real good...i think it beats eating at JAck's Place or anywhere else! i think its still money well spent! the meat is juicy and tender! not some hard rock-like steak u get in some cheapo stall, nor is it a small tiny portion u get in some restuarant...the serving here is generous and the meat quality is shiok! the side dishes are also better than wat u get at cheap western stall! and it refreshing to have a have a choice of ur own side dishes as well! for my steak... i give it 4!

hold on...u may ask me y i din try the wagyu steak?? well it will be too big a hole for my wallet...given wat the saf gives me...i guess i will try it after i get a job outside after i ord haha...as for the grading..the wagyu beef will enjoy a new grading system from me! cos i think wagyu is like "god-like" to me haha! all thnks to colin la...he was eating the same Australian Gold Ribeye as me...but keep complaining "hmmm..this can't be wagyu man...wagyu is so soft...so fat!!" ARGHHHH!!!! i also wan to try astons' wagyu steak!!!

if u think a steak is enough to send us out of the cafe...think again! there is another thing tt u can't miss in astons! the "ieatSuper Burger"!!! and it is SUPERB!!!
check out the ingredients!

From bottom up:
1. XL Soft Sesame Seed Bun
2. 200gm freshly chopped sirloin steak patty 2oogm, medium done
3. astons homemade Smoked Hickory BBQ sauce
4. cheese
5. grilled crispy bacon
6. fried egg
7. crispy fried onion rings
8. lettuce
9. tomatoes
10. mayonnaise

the burger is really really better than the botak jones burger man!!! the patty is much better chopped and fresher in my opinion! juicier of cos!! and i really love the idea of having the onion rings and bacon in the burger! the bacon adds a salty flavour to the burger while the onion rings juz improve the overall flavour! the crispy rings also add an extra 咬劲 to the burger! well the homemade sauce juz complement everything! well this another jumbo burger! so u can once again challenge urself to stuff everything down ur mouth!!

three of us shared one burger each...and we din really bother to cut or anything...we juz rotate to bite the burger! this sounds and look gay and unhygienic though haha....but the burger is sure delicious enough for us to 不顾形象!

the Black Peppar Chicken's @ $5.90 and the Crispy Fried Chicken @ $5.50...so no worries if u wanna bring ur friends there! the price range is very accommodating to every1 =) but bad news to any1 who wanna eat now...astons is expanding its outlet in katong and will be closed until 30 Apr! meanwhile, u can try the one in serangoon garden! its newly open branch but take note..there is no celebrity beef there though!

天庭海鲜

this is one of the few restaurant tt my family frequents…and today…my mum suggested that we head back there for dinner…I was thinking “great! Something tt I can add to my blog!” I always think this restaurant is unique! Not juz its food but its location…this is really one of the few ulu places I’ve know tt offers such good finger licking food! Trust me..its really finger licking good! its located within an industrial park…where rows and rows of warehouses exist…and standing out on the bottom floor of a blue building…there it is! 天庭海鲜 =) honestly, I think its not easy to find this place

alrite enough abt me ranting abt the place cos I dun think anyone is interested anw….so I’ll start wif the food!

First dish we ate is 醉虾!! The prawns are alive when delivered to the table! Not the alive type when u see the prawns’ little legs wriggling…but the type where they are really JUMPING off from the bowl of wine! Then they are poured into the piping hot herbal soup to be cooked…I know this sound cruel…u can report me to SPCA if u wan…but this is really how u get fresh prawns man! The prawns got 咬劲! Each bite is so succulent and crunchy! =D u can tell if the prawn is fresh or not by 2 ways! First is whether the prawn head is attached to the bowl after cooked…Second is if whether the prawn head got some foul taste! Well the head’s attached and tastes great! So tt shows how great the prawn is! The herbal soup is another highlight! For those who dun like herbal…no worries man…cos the smell is very light and the soup is really really refreshing! 16 prawns for 4 ppl @ $26, I give it 4!

Next up is 大头!(pronounce it hokkien pls) I won’t comment to much on it…I think its ok only…the flavouring is ok…not really fantastic…and the clam meat is a bit soft and watery…but my mum likes it! She say got the “burst in mouth” feeling due to its watery-ness…well 各有所见….@ $8…I give it 3..sorry mum!

蟹黄炒饭…this fried rice is better than ave…partly due to the ingredients I would say….fish roe is mixed wif the rice to add to the colouring and design of the dish…they are quite generous wif the crab meat and prawn bits and they are really visible in the dish…not some tiny puny ingredients u’ll see elsewhere…generally a good mixed but I won’t spend so much for fried rice when I’m hungry haha….@ $8 my dad it isn’t real ex…I give it 3.5

I dunno how many ppl ate this b4…this is 金隆鸡! Let me explained how its made first! First the chicken skin is removed from the chicken…then the meat is removed and mashed into a paste…of cos flavouring is added during tt time but I dunno wat they are..haha…the paste is then spread across a layer of chicken skin and covered by the other on top (like a burger)…and finally it is deep fried to give it the crisp and golden colour! A sauce is added to the bottom of the chicken and our 金隆鸡 is done! This time round…this dish tastes a bit different…personally…I feel that the paste is too “paste” I mean I can’t find any meaty portion to bite! Well the method describe above is the normal recipe…but this place normally give its customers an extra bite into the dish but serving up the dish with chunky portions of the meat visible! I really like chewing the chunky bits and the crispy skin! So when they served up the norm paste-like dish…I’m really disappointed! Overall the dish is still good! price @ $22, I know it a little on the steep side! But u have to give credit to the chefs for the effort! I give it 4! If they served me the chunky-type金隆鸡 today I would have given it 4.5! ALAS!!

And now for the last two dishes! And the highlight of the dinner!! 奶黄椰奶螃蟹 and the black pepper crab! The crabs served today are really great! They are fat and succulent! OMG! The meat doesn’t stick to the shell and the chefs break the shell and crucial points which makes it easy to remove and take out chunk and chunk of crab meat and deliver it straight to your mouth! Let’s touch on the 奶黄椰奶螃蟹…the sauce is really unique! Its very fragrant! I attribute it to the coconut milk! The sauce is sweet and milky =D and goes well with the fried 馒头! U no longer have to restrict urself to chili crab juz to enjoy dipping fried 馒头! Haha…as for the black pepper crab…this is my fist time ordering it and let me warn u! it is really spicy! OMG….i had eaten many black pepper and chili crabs b4…and this one is really 辣!!! Even my mum feels the same too! To think tt a lot of spicy stuff are nth to her man…but its really shiok! Each bite juz wan me to have more! Haha..i have always tot joo chiat offers one of the best black pepper crabs! This place is one of them man! Both sauce, black pepper and 奶黄椰奶 are good! by the time the crabs are gone and fingers lingering wif the sauce, u’re really tempted to lick ur fingers to savour the last bit of the crabs!! Each crab is priced @ $33…I give each dish 4.5!! =D

Some of the prices may look steep and hefty…but for the quality of the food…I wld say it is really cheap! If u’re planning to come…pls come early… during weekends! I reached there at arnd 5.15pm and several tables were already taken…by 6.45pm when I left…all the tables are full and at least another 7-8 tables waiting!

Botak Jones

I tried this arnd jan/feb?? can't really rmb liao juz know its quite long ago. but anw i hunted this place down when my "food craze" started this yr! think kangkang me and & few others been surfing too many food blogs and tt's how it started! yup anw..i've decided to give my first entry to BOTAK JONES! here goes!

Botak Jones sells american western food at kopitiam price! yes u din hear wrongly...it has 4 branches in singapore, so u can guess for kopitiam stall to do so well..there is certainly some quality in it man! they are located in toa payoh, amk, tuas and clementi..

sy & i checked out the one in amk..consider me a sua gu if u wan but i'm really amazed when i reached the kopitiam! everyone is queueing up to order Botak Jones la...the other stalls can only hit houseflies i tell u...only the drink stall auntie is beaming happily from the money earned from Botak Jones customers...

sorry for the lousy photos taken...i promise i will take better quality photos in the future! ( the subsequent entries shld still have lousy photos though =S ) alrite, this is the cajun chicken which sy ordered...the photo doesn't loo appealing i know, but the chicken is actually not bad! $6.50 for quite a big portion =) the chicken is tender and there's melted cheese on the meat when served..so ppl out there who loved cheese will be trilled to see the strands of cheese as u send a chump of meat into ur mouth! kangkang tried the same thing in the clementi branch but complained tt it was a bit dry...diff place diff cooks diff styles?? who knows? hahaha for this chicken which i took only a bite..i won't dare to give points for it...wait till i try!
Here comes the highlight! ;) this is wat i ordered! shld post something big to show how enormous this burger actually is! this is their "signboard dish"! the beef patty burger! it come in 3 sizes… called"Botak” for one patty, “Double Botak” for two patties and finally “U-Crazy-Wat” for three patties!!! & yes! i love challenges and so i challenged myself to "U-Crazy-Wat"!!! each patty is arnd 150gm and tt's an enormous 450gm worth of beef! everyone was staring at me like our little big head small body fellow from MARS! well i have to say its cheap la $11.50 for a set meal! wat more can i ask rite?? for those with tight wallet or stomach...the single patty is only $5.50 for the set meal =) on first taste, the medium well done meat patty is good! u can still see the juice dripping out as u bite! but warning to ppl who can't eat tt much, it gets kinda ni4 eating so much of beef tt it start to feel dryand i'm practically struggling to finish! even sng has prob wif it...haizz...i wonder if there is really someone out there who can gobble down the whole burger..its five layers la! maybe eugene lim can try accomplishing this feat! Oops! no offence to u eugene! for the burger, i will give 3.5
and of cos, there is steak, lamb chop, fish & chips avaliable as well but it was juz impossible for me to eat further anymore....btw the waiting time is rather long at night..esp during weekends..i waited 4 arnd 45min!
for those interested, check them out @ http://www.botakjones.com/

Introduksi

Finally!!!

i've forced myself to start my food blog! been wanting to start this kinda blog long ago, but juz feeling lazy haha...but kang kang keep pressurising me to start it...so here goes! well this first won't have any food yet...cos all the photos at home =S i will go home and do one on botak jones! so yup...bear the wait ;)
